Meet the Webmistress

Sometimes I go to websites, and think how wonderful it would be to know a little more about the person behind the website.  People may never wonder that about me, but I thought I would take a moment to introduce myself and my family anyway.

My name is Jade.  I'm a 31 year old stay at home mom who lives in Montross, Virginia.  My husband, Ben, is in the Marine Corps...at least I think that guy who wanders through my house every so often is my husband. Sometimes he's gone so much that I wonder (just kidding).

Our Wedding

Ben and I met in April 1999.  It was an interesting relationship; at the time, he was stationed in southern North Carolina and I lived in northern Virginia.  We got married on June 2, 2001, at the Iwo Jima Monument (aka the Marine Corps War Memorial) in Arlington, Virginia.  A month later, Ben left on a one year long unaccompanied tour to Okinawa, Japan.  Thus our first year of marriage passed in a blur of phone calls at odd hours, with the occasional e-mails and IM conversations, and a few weeks of Ben being home on leave thrown in for good measure.  But as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder (though Ben might say his absence makes his wife grow testier).  He returned to the states in June 2002, and we then relocated to South Carolina.  After a little over three years in the Palmetto state (or is that the 'Palmetto Bug' state?), we relocated back to Virginia.

Taryn is the first of my two wonderful children.  She's Ben's step-daughter, though anyone watching the two of them together would never know it (unless it's time for Taryn to clean her room...then all bets are off!).  She's currently ten years old, and in fifth grade.

Then there's my son, Gabriel.  He was born on December 10, 2003, in Beaufort.  Ben was on a deployment for the majority of my pregnancy, much to his disappointment (at least he says he was disappointed).  He came home on two weeks of leave in December, so he did get to be here when Gabriel was born (then he got to escape for another month, thus missing oh so much middle of the night crying, dirty diapers and spitting up...so sad).

So there you have it...a small glimpse into my life.  I've been working on this website for several years now.  There have been times that I never thought I'd get it just the way I wanted it - and it's still a constant work in progress - but I think all the effort has been more than worth it.  Enjoy your visit!
