The next time you get a chance to talk to
a veteran, remember this:

"The willingness with which our young people
are likely to serve in any war, no matter how
justified, shall be directly proportional as to
how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars
were treated and appreciated by their nation."

- George Washington -

I asked many of my friends to take a moment to think about veterans,
and to send me a line or two stating the first thing they thought of.
Here's what they had to say:

light_blue.gif

Veterans are always the first to stand...when America is threatened or endangered
in any way, when women or children are involved, when it comes to brothers...
no matter how shabbily they get treated, have been treated, or may be treated.

light_blue.gif

They are always the last ones to speak about the war or the honors they have earned.

light_blue.gif

They have pride in their country, and in their time of service,
and they share a brotherhood that cannot be described.

light_blue.gif

Veterans seem to know the true wealth of friendship and just how eternal it is.

light_blue.gif

They gave all, and they keep on giving.

light_blue.gif

They gave us our cherished freedoms as they protected
our country...some gave their lives.

light_blue.gif

Veterans have 'knowing eyes'...eyes filled with a mixture of pain and pride.
Go to a Memorial Day parade and watch a veteran
to see that expression at its fullest.

light_blue.gif

They seem to be one of two types...exact opposites of each other...
one type is quiet and won't talk about their experience or relive any part of it,
while the others are the type who are military born and bred for their entire
lifetime, yelling and fighting for this nation til their dying day.

light_blue.gif

To experience true patriotism, meet a veteran.

light_blue.gif

When I think of veterans, the first things I think of are their pride and courage,
and how thankful I am for all they risked and gave for my family and their nation.

light_blue.gif

Veterans are always the first to stand and honor the flag when it passes and place
their hand over their hearts when the Star Spangled Banner is played.
